Cumpleaños de mi padre

August 29, 2011

Hace Calor

Home » Hace Calor » Root Album » Nueva York

When I Was Your Age!

June 29, 2011

It’s interesting to see that even here we have older people who tell those stories to the young-ens about when they were our age. I’m sure just like back home children get a dose if it at family dinners but here they get dessert as well. In every bar there seems to be a local (if not a few) that love to tell stories about how when they were our age. My guess is that it has something to do with the wine.

BBQs in Spain

June 25, 2011

BBQs in Spain are a bit different than they are in the states. I guess you could say a good BBQ in the states would be about the same as a normal one here. See, it starts at about 2pm (normal lunch time) where everyone shows up and eats and drinks as we would back home. The only difference is that there doesn’t seem to be an end. After eating we continued on drinking and I tried something new, Patxaran. It’s a bit sweet and tastes a bit like anise but thankfully not as strong. Though I’d like to think there’s an ongoing game of ‘get the foreigner drunk’ I think this much drinking is just normal. So after 5 shots I called it quits.  Thankfully it’s not that strong.  After a couple hours of chatting with people at the BBQ another round of food came out and boy did it go fast!  Things finally started to wind down at around midnight when everyone pitched in and helped clean up before they headed out to a bar in the city.  I’ll upload some pics of the people and the food so you can see.  Right now though, I’m off to bed…

Update: Ok so after I checked out the wikipedia info for Patxaran I realized it’s not exactly weak.  Thankfully the shots we were having were very very small.

Barbara Streisand

June 24, 2011

Nothing personal against Barbara Streisand but I think her name is going to plague my dreams for a few days. See there’s a song, ok a CD, that every bar seems to have and plays on repeat cada noche. Thirteen years ago it was the same thing, just a different CD. Anyway I’m getting off topic. One song in particular has a hook of saying ‘Barbara Streisand’ in a deep male voice and I have no idea why. Es possible que esta frase will plague my dreams tonight.

Sorry if I slipped into writing in Spanish pero yo tengo sueño.

Hasta mañana.

This is what life can look like if you live here, blurry. It amazes me that people who live here stay out till 3am on a school night.

P.S. Sorry in advance to my teachers for not doing my homework for tomorrow :(

Ring My Bell

June 22, 2011

Eating pinchos today I forgot that in Spain it’s not expected that you leave a tip. But after accumulating a small mountain of change on my desk at home I really don’t want anymore. So as I paid the bartender for my coffee and pinchos I left the change behind. As I was leaving that’s when I heard the bell ring.
